Why “Inclusive Reads”? The Story Behind Our Name

When I was dreaming up this little library, I knew I wanted it to be more than just a place to swap books. I wanted it to reflect the values at the heart of both my personal and professional life: inclusion, connection, and belonging. That’s how the name Inclusive Reads was born.

For me, reading has been both a joy and a challenge. As a person with ADHD and dyslexia, I’ve often had to find different ways of engaging with books—mainly through audiobooks, finding the right environment to read , or simply taking my time with the stories that speak to me. But no matter the format, books have always given me something valuable: the chance to learn, grow, and connect.

I also wanted Inclusive Reads to specialise in books about neurodiversity. These kinds of books can be costly, and it isn’t always clear whether they will be truly helpful. By creating a space where we can not only share books but also share our reviews, I hope to make it easier for people to discover stories and resources that really make a difference.

I chose the word Inclusive because I want this library to welcome every kind of reader. Whether you love long novels, prefer listening to stories, enjoy picture books, or find meaning in short reads, this is a space for you. No one way of reading is “right” or “better.”

And I chose the word Reads because that’s what ties us together—stories. The act of reading (in whatever form it takes for you) is what connects us, helps us reflect, and builds understanding.

So, Inclusive Reads is not just a name. It’s a promise: that this little library and online space will always celebrate diversity, make room for different experiences, and invite everyone to belong.

I’m Hayley

As an independent Occupational Therapist in North Hertfordshire, I believe that reading is a valued occupation. Stories, knowledge, and words can bring joy, spark learning, and most importantly, help us feel connected to ourselves and to each other.

I created this Little Free Library for Neurodiverse Minds to give back to my local community, and to create a welcoming space where books can be shared, discovered, and enjoyed. Alongside the library, I’ve built this online space to celebrate books that have supported us, inspired us, or simply brought us pleasure.

At the heart of Inclusive Reads is a simple idea: through books we can nurture belonging, togetherness, and connection. This library is here for everyone: Borrow • Read • Return • Belong.
