As an Occupational Therapist, I often draw on the framework of doing, being, and belonging. It’s a simple but powerful way of thinking about the activities that make life meaningful.
- Doing is about the occupations we take part in – the things that fill our days and give us a sense of purpose. In Inclusive Reads, this is borrowing, reading, sharing, and reviewing books.
- Being is about how those occupations shape who we are. Reading allows us to reflect, learn, and connect with stories that mirror or expand our own experiences. For me, being a reader is part of who I am – it has shaped my interests and knowledge.
- Belonging is about community, relationships, and shared meaning. Inclusive Reads is not just about individual reading; it’s about creating a collective space where everyone is welcome, differences are celebrated, and connection is possible through stories and sharing a common interest, reading.
This framework aligns beautifully with the vision of Inclusive Reads. It’s not only about books – it’s about creating a community where doing, being, and belonging come together.
📍 You’ll find the little library outside 2 Claypit Cottage, SG5 3DN, and here online as a growing space of reviews, reflections, and resources.
